Donkey

Donkeys are the smallest of the equine family. They are also know as a burro or jack stocks. Their native habitat is desert climate. They are stronger than a horse even though they are smaller. It is rare for a donkey to run, they analyze situations for danger. Donkeys are not stubborn, but they do have a reputation for being stubborn. They are intelligent animals and stay away from danger. You can put harnesses on then. They can live up to 40 years, if taken cared of. Mules are from a male donkey breeding with a female horse.

Frog

"Kiss a frog and you will find your prince."(Princess and the Frog). Frogs do not actually turn into princes, but they do in fairy tales. They do have cool characteristics, though. They have great eyesight for seeing under water and hunting for prey. They have powerful back legs for swimming fast and jumping. Some frogs can jump 20 times more than their own weight. The male frog's eardrums and eyes are the same size. On the female, the eyes are bigger than the eardrums. Frogs come in many pattern, colors, and sizes. Every different species of frog has their own look.

Alpaca

People usually ask what the difference is between an alpaca and a llama. To be honest they are not that much different, alpacas are just bigger than llamas. If you are wondering, yes they do spit, but only if they are feeling threatened or has been abused by their owner. Their fur has the second strongest fibers, after sheep. Also, there are twenty-two different colored alpacas, but only two different breeds. They look a little goofy after getting shaved, they still have their fur all around their face. They are very social, too. They enjoy being surrounded by their friends and getting the chance to chat. That is why it is better to have two, than one alpaca. There are alpaca farms all over the world, they are not wild creatures. Alpacas enjoy humming. They have three stomachs like cows. Baby alpacas are called crias. These are the few interesting facts most do not know about alpacas.

Butterfly

They enjoy soaring in the air. They just reached their mature stage. Are glad that they can be free and beautiful. Butterflies are insects with beautiful wings. Their size ranges from one eighth of an inch to twelve inches. They can only see reds, greens, and yellows. Their flight speed goes up to twelve miles per hour, while a moths speed can go up to twenty-five miles per hour. They need to be in warm climates, they cannot fly if their body temperature is less than eighty-six degrees. There are about twenty-four thousand different species of butterflies. Some female of moth species lack wings and have to crawl. Many can lift fifty times their body weight.

Saluki

A saluki dog is great for hunting for rabbits. They are the oldest breed of domestic dogs. These dogs are tall and slender. A saluki is a great runner if you put a mechanic bunny in front of them. They have silky fur, large droopy ears, and fringed feet. They do not bark much and are calm, polite creatures. Also, they become shy and suspicious when they are not socializing my with the owner. This dog is athletic, can run great heights and run 45 mph. They are easy to take care of, including their soft elegant coat. I can see why salukis are SIUc's mascot, which is the school of my dreams.

Elephant

Elephants eat a lot, starting from grass to bananas. They are the symbol of family because they never leave one of their members behind. Once a member passes away, they make a circle in respect. Also, the one that is closer to the member that passed away becomes depressed and slowly dies. Also, an elephant gestation period is almost 2 years, it is  22 months! They are the largest land animals in the world. I find elephants as amazing creature, they are beautiful and lovable. They eat up to 300 to 400 pounds of food a day. Elephants mostly mate during rainy seasons. A calf weighs from 200 to 250 pounds when born.

Donkeys

Donkeys are very strong and intelligent animals. They will not do something that is considered as unsafe. They come in herds and make the strongest donkey the leader of the herd. Also, donkeys groom each other in the same ways monkeys and chimps do. They are not easily started like horses are and are curious creatures. They make decisions based on their safety. A donkey can hear another donkey call to them from 60 miles away in a desert. They have fairly large ears, which can cool them down. Donkeys can live for over 50 years. Another interesting fact is their fur is not waterproof so they do not like being out in the rain and it can damage their health. Lastly, they do not mind being surrounded by a herd of goats, even though they enjoy being with a herd of other donkeys.

Hippos

Hippopotamus are the third largest land animal. The male Hippos can weigh up to 9,920 pounds. Hippos can only survive in areas with a large amounts of water, for instance; rivers and lakes. The water cools down the hippo in the Africa heat. They spend their day in the water and night out hunting for food. Hippos are very social animals and hang out in groups. Schools of hippos usually consist of 10 to 30 members of hippos, both females and males. The groups are usually led by a male hippo. Hippos are very aggressive and dangerous. Also, hippos can not swim, they move by pushing off of objects under the water.

Sloth

Everyone knows what a sloth is,  most teenagers compare themselves to a sloth because they sleep a lot and like to just hang out. They sleep for 10 hours in a day, most people thought 15 to 20 hours in a day. The sloth is an arboreal animal, in other words, most of his day is spent in a tree. A sloth only climbs down the tree to use the restroom. There are two types of sloths, two toed and three toed sloths. Their appearance are the same, but the two toed sloths grow bigger in size. A sloth moves 2 meters per minute on ground, but in the trees the move 3 meters per minute. The fastest they go is 4 meters per minute when they are being chased by a predator. On the other hand, they can protect themselves with their sharp claws, biting, and their loud shriek. Last interesting fact, is they only eat leaves which does not give them the energy and nutrients they need. Which is why the move slowly, to save the energy they have.

Cats

What are your thoughts about cats? Cats are loveable creatures that love to cuddle and take naps all day long. They have soft and fluffy fur. If someone was down there cat can comfort them by allowing them to pet their soft, fluffy fur. The best part about having a cat as a pet, is the fact that cats are potty trained! Which is pretty great so you don't have to clean up messes. On the other hand, cats can make hairballs if you do not keep their fur short and brushed. Some cats do not enjoy being brushed, so try giving them a treat if they allow you to brush them. Doing this will allow you to brush them on a regular basis. Also, most people are against the fact people remove cats nails. If you think about it though, cats still get in the habit of scratching even without claws, it just won't tear your furniture up. So if you have young ones and don't want the cat to claw them, then try it. Most people believe it can cause a cat to become depressed and they cat protect themselves in the wild life without them. If you make sure your cat stays inside you won't have to worry about them protecting themselves from other creatures. Anyways, cats are really cool pets and are the best cuddly friend you could ever ask for!

Pigs

First of all, who does not like bacon?? Bacon is amazing food that is only possible because of pigs. Pigs are interesting animals. To be honest, they are clean animals, at least try to be. They make sure their toilet area is away from where they eat and lie down. Also, pigs have a great sense of smell. Pigs are social animals like cows. They enjoy lying down next to each other and love close contact.

Horses

Horses are majestic creatures. Before cars were invented you would ride a horse or have a horse pull you in a carriage. Some horses enjoy when you ride them on a daily bases, others do not want you to mess with them. There are plenty breeds of horses. You can get a furry one, a chestnut one, white horse, black horse, tall, dwarf, or spotted. Riding horses is not easy as riding a bike, which is what most people think. It takes a lot of practice and a lot of skills are needed. On the other hand, if you are willing to learn on how to ride a horse, then you can do it! When having a horse, you have to take care of it. You have to feed them, clean and brush them, and clean their stables. Horses are like dogs but taller and more responsibilities.

Cows

Cows are pretty great. They provide milk that gives us most of the nutrients that we need. Also, they are pretty tasty cooked as steak. Dairy cows provide milk which we make into cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, and many other foods. I learned yesterday at fair oaks farm, that cheese can last up to six to eight hours without being refrigerated. Also, that most chocolates do not go bad up to six months! Calfs are pretty cute and don't really spend time with their mothers. When they are first born their mothers clean them off, then the calf are place in little huts for a few weeks until they grow out of them. Cows do a lot for us to be honest, they give us all the nutrients we need in our milk. That is why cows are pretty great.

Tigers

As most know, tigers are part of the cat family. Tigers are the largest members of the cat family. They have a lot of power and are capable of killing animals over twice their size. Tigers live alone and they make a territories up to 100 sq km in size to keep enemies away. Another interesting fact is they use their distinctive coats as camouflage. There are no two tigers with the same exact stripes. Cubs cannot hunt until they are 18 months old and stay with their mothers for two to three years, then they have to go find their own territory. Also, tigers can purr just like any other cat can. The only difference is cat purr breathing in and out, tigers only purr breathing out. Some cats do not get along with water. On the other hand, tigers are great swimmers and like to cool off in nearby lakes. In conclusion, tigers are pretty cool.

Dogs

Everybody enjoys a dogs company. Dogs are playful and loving to whoever they see. Some dogs are aggressive and mean, but that is mostly caused by who their owners are. There are many breeds of dogs, for example; huskies, yorkies, labs, german shepards, and more. Dogs can have spots, rough or soft fur, big droopy ears or little erect ears. The appearance of the dogs may be different but they have similar actions. For instance, they all like to eat, play, and sleep. They like to play fetch, also they love attention. It is best to gives dogs all the attention they need. Fun fact: dogs make only 10 different sounds.
